Manheim has announced the completion of photovoltaic solar installations at two of its auto auctions, Manheim Baltimore-Washington and Manheim Nashville to produce clean energy and reduce carbon emissions. "Manheim is committed to supporting conservation initiatives at all of our locations," said David Munnikhuysen, Manheim's vice president of operational analytics. "Improving and sustaining the environment ensures that we are good stewards for our communities and our business." The Manheim Baltimore-Washington installation produces nearly 170kW of clean energy, and the Manheim Nashville project generates 200kW of renewable energy. Combined, the two installations generate enough energy to power the equivalent of 41 average-sized homes and prevent more than 285 tons of carbon from entering the environment. These installations join completed solar projects at Manheim Georgia, Manheim New Jersey, Manheim Phoenix and Manheim Portland. Across Manheim, many locations have completed energy conservation projects with their lighting and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, as well as participate in the water conservation initiatives. Through its two Water Conservation Centers, Manheim saves 10 million gallon of water each year. Manheim also switched from solvent to water-based paint at 16 locations, reducing the greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent at each of the participating locations. Manheim's paint mix management process has also reduced 36 tons of carbon. Manheim is a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises and participates in Cox Conserves, the company's national sustainability program. "Manheim plays an important role in our Cox Conserves program," said Keith Mask, Cox Enterprises' assistant vice president of energy and engineering. "Cox Conserves was created five years ago, and since that time, Manheim has really led the way for our company with water conservation. They are also identifying opportunities, such as this solar installation, to reduce carbon. These projects provide cleaner air for our communities and help preserve valuable natural resources." Across the nation, Cox is producing more than 5,000 kW of clean energy through its solar and fuel cell projects. Combined, these renewable energy projects are preventing more than 17,600 tons of carbon from entering the environment.
