SunWorks Solar Systems, Florida's leading solar system supplier has signed a letter of intent to design, develop and install a large-scale solar energy project in Central Florida.

The solar electric / photovoltaic "solar farm" system is planned for 2 MW (megawatts) in capacity, which will make it one of the largest in Florida. Plans call for system installation in early 2010. This large-scale solar farm will utilize solar electric / photovoltaic modules made in the United States.

Total project value is estimated at $12 million. SunWorks Solar's Orlando office secured this project and will manage it through completion.

"We're excited to help bring a large utility-scale solar energy system to Central Florida," said David H. Smith, president of SunWorks Solar. "It's evidence of solar energy's viability to efficiently serve the electricity needs of many people. And its potential to create high-value jobs in Orlando and Jacksonville."

A solar energy "solar farm" system of 2 MW such as this can provide electric power for over 300 average homes. Solar electric systems - also known as photovoltaic (PV) systems - convert sunlight directly into electricity that can be used to power homes or commercial buildings.

SunWorks Solar offers completely renewable and clean solar energy systems that also have a positive impact on the environment. Solar energy doesn't require mining, drilling, transporting or burning fossil fuels, which reduces emission of harmful pollutants into the air and water as well as conserving natural resources while lessening dependence on non-U.S. resources.
