EaglePicher Technologies has received a $2.9 million defense contract as part of the 2008 Defense Appropriations Bill. This government contract will fund the qualification of new missile, portable power and Department of Defense batteries at EaglePicher Technologies' new automated facility in Pittsburg, Kan. The new 30,000-square- foot facility positions EaglePicher at the forefront of U.S.-based battery suppliers for defense-related programs.
"This funding will support EaglePicher as we identify new battery programs over the next three years and qualify them to be produced in our new automated production facility," said John Bennett, EaglePicher Technologies vice president and general manager.
"Automated manufacturing provides the government benefits in areas of cost containment, quality control, production repeatability and speed to market. This further demonstrates EaglePicher's commitment to providing the Department of Defense with the most reliable products, every time, and on time."
EaglePicher batteries are used to supply electrical power for missiles, bombs, fuses, sub munitions, guided projectiles, satellites and aviation applications used by the U.S. military.
