Robots used by U.S. military forces in Iraq and Afghanistan are being refurbished and modernized by QinetiQ North America under U.S. Army and Navy contracts.
The lightweight, tracked Talon robots by QinetiQ were used extensively in the wars in ordnance disposal operations.

"We are also grateful for the confidence shown by the U.S. Military in the robust and reliable capabilities provided through our family of robots."
Under a contract given the company through the U.S. Army Contracting Command, QNA is providing spare parts and upgrading the service's Talons to sustain systems currently fielded and for those to be used in future operations.
The U.S. Navy gave the company a $30 million three-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity award for new systems, as well as for reconditioning, upgrading and the supply of spare parts for its fleet of TALON robots.
QinetiQ North America announced the awards on Thursday but the contracts were signed in September. The company offered no explanation for the delay in the announcement.
