Growing Latin American concerns over internal security are drawing more investment into the telecommunications and technology industries in the region, which are enjoying a boom in both private and public sectors.
Economic prosperity is driving incentives to build on previous developments in the security and telecommunications sectors that, in most cases in Latin America, are interconnected. Brazil's dramatic growth in the hydrocarbons industry pushed up investments in defense, technology and telecommunications.
Florida telecom company On the Move Systems Corp. indicated the wireless market in Brazil and the rest of South America was growing but largely untapped, in the same way as it saw the potential in China, India and Russia.
The company said it is working to develop new mobile technologies tailored to the needs of emerging markets around the globe.
"As strong as demand has been for new products in the top wireless markets such as the U.S., we believe it will soon be dwarfed by China, Russia and other emerging markets," the company said. "In many of these places, WiFi is scarce; 3G-enabled smartphones and tablets are people's primary means of accessing digital content."
The company said it saw "enormous potential for wireless market growth in these places, and OMVS is aggressively pursuing new mobile technology solutions that will be powerful and affordable enough for mass appeal there."
Internet access remains a rare privilege in nations such as Brazil, China and especially India, where only 5.1 percent of citizens have Internet access. The rise of 3G mobile services around the world promises to change that, making tablet computers and smartphones very attractive consumer options.
Price tags, however, remain a barrier, said the company.
"As prices continue to come down on 3G tablets and smartphones, digital content usage is going to skyrocket in emerging markets," the company said. "The opportunity for growth here is incredible, which is why OMVS is exploring new development partnerships in these markets to create hardware and content solutions designed specifically for emerging-market consumers."
Last month, OMVS created a new division to develop technology innovations in wireless tablets, smart phones and mobile applications.
On the Move Systems, Inc. has headquarters in Tampa, Fla., and is working on development of what it says are cutting-edge technologies across a broad spectrum of industries.
The company is also exploring new business in solar energy and clean technology, areas that have attracted increasing investment but also a diverse array of products and technologies, causing end-user confusion in some countries.
In Latin America, advanced telecommunications are being applied in vast range of energy industries where security is considered a major issue. Smart power grids are among technologies increasingly seen by Latin American governments as a secure way of circumventing problems posed by opponents targeting vulnerable infrastructural systems.
