Saab has signed a contract for delivery of five GIRAFFE systems to prime contractor Lockheed Martin UK – INSYS, for the United Kingdom. The contract value for Saab is in the region of GBP 30 million.
"We are pleased to be awarded this contract after a very thorough evaluation process. This contract shows the strong position of the GIRAFFE AMB system on the world market" says Lennart Joelsson, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Saab Microwave Systems.
The Saab GIRAFFE AMB is a part of Lockheed Martin's system solution for the United Kingdom's LEAPP programme, Land Environment Air Picture Provision, which is expected to enter service by 2012. The system is highly mobile and will provide an air picture to land component headquarters, ground based air defence and other units. This system solution was down-selected in August 2006 after a competitive assessment phase including live system demonstrations.
