Ukroboronprom announced Friday the creation of the Ukrainian Aircraft Corp., a consolidation the company says is the first example of reform in Ukraine's defense industry.

The new corporation will be based out of the Antonov facility in Kiev, which handles the full cycle of modern aircraft creation as well as modifications to passenger, transport and special-purpose aircraft, the company said in a statement.

The corporation will be joined by the Ukrainian Research Institute of Aviation Technology, as well as the Novator and Mayak facilities, along with the Kharkiv Aggregate Design Bureau and the Kharkiv Machinery Plant.

The so-called "aircraft cluster" will expand beyond these enterprises in the future, and the system is open to enterprises with any kind of ownership, the company said.

The cluster will help the Ukrainian aviation industry to develop and integrate into the global market, the company said, while allowing for private-sector partnerships.

It will also foster uniform production, planning, procurement and marketing among the cluster's enterprises, the company said.
