US President George W. Bush will give a speech about climate change on Wednesday at the White House, spokeswoman Dana Perino said Tuesday.

Bush is expected to make an announcement about "identifying long term and realistic intermediate goals for greenhouse gas emissions," Perino said.

The announcement was linked to what US representatives would present at a conference of major polluters being held in Paris this week, Perino said.

Bush was expected to unveil his own proposal for capping greenhouse gas emissions after Perino said Monday the president could not support current proposals being discussed in Congress because they would harm the US economy.
