China's parliamentary head Wu Bangguo held talks with Austria's Economy Minister Josef Proell on Saturday, after having called for a fairer and more just world financial system.
Wu, the second most powerful man in China's ruling Communist Party, is in Austria for a four-day visit to strengthen bilateral ties.
He met Austrian President Heinz Fischer and parliamentary president Barbara Prammer, on Friday, said a statement from the Austrian parliament.
During his talks with Prammer, he called for "a fair and just financial system, providing more monitoring and control mechanisms and better taking into consideration the needs of developing countries," said the statement.
While on human rights, Prammer noted that China's constitution guaranteed Tibet's autonomy as well as religious freedoms, Wu insisted that Beijing's actions were merely to preserve Chinese unity.
China has ruled Tibet since sending in troops in 1951, but critics say Beijing has carried out a systematic campaign of repression there.
Prammer said he hoped the two countries could further develop cooperation on economic issues such as agriculture and the environment.
Beijing and Vienna also vowed to work together in the UN Security Council, where Austria currently has a seat as a non-permanent member, especially to resume stalled talks on dismantling North Korea's nuclear programme.
